Locums Neurosurgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner

Full Time

We are seeking an experienced and confident Board-Certified Neurosurgery Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide locum tenens night shift coverage at a busy, hospital-based neurosurgical service in Colorado Springs, CO. This role includes in-house call and requires immediate response to emergent cases. A PA with first assist capabilities and a strong background in trauma neurosurgery is highly preferred.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide overnight coverage for neurosurgical patients, including trauma and non-trauma cases
  • Respond to emergent neurosurgical situations in-house during shift (sleep room available if needed)
  • First assist in the operating room for emergent and urgent cases
  • Perform patient assessments, place orders, monitor neurological status, and consult with the neurosurgeon on call
  • Support ICU and floor teams with post-op management, documentation, and ongoing care coordination 

Practice Details:

 

  • Patient Population: 98% Adult / 2% Pediatric
  • Trauma Volume: ~90% trauma cases
  • Setting: 100% hospital-based (Level II Trauma Center)
  • Shifts per Month: Up to 20, as needed 

Preferred Procedures & Skills:

 

  • General neurosurgery (adult and trauma)
  • Cerebrovascular procedures (open and endovascular)
  • Carotid or vertebral artery surgery
  • Aneurysm clipping
  • Spinal surgery with and without instrumentation
  • Placement of ICP monitors 

Requirements:

 

  • Board Certified Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner
  • Active Colorado License or Active IMLC
  • Experience in neurosurgery and trauma strongly preferred
  • Must be comfortable working independently overnight
  • Must have current ACLS and BLS (preferred)
  • First assist certification or extensive OR experience strongly desired
