Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant

We are seeking an experienced Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant to provide coverage at a leading hospital in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This position offers a mix of weekday, weekend, and night call coverage, with opportunities to work both in the operating room and on the floor.

Position Details:

• Setting: Hospital-based – Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Shift Types: Weekday, weekend, and night call coverage (varied shifts)
• Weekend Requirements: Rounding + OR coverage
• On-Call Requirements: Night call coverage required
• Average Daily Caseload:
• Surgery: ~2 operative cases/day
• Rounds: 5–12 patients/day (ICU & floor, includes consults)
• EMR: Cerner

Responsibilities:

• Perform vascular tissue retrieval for use as bypass conduit, including endoscopic vein harvesting
• Insert chest tubes as clinically indicated
• First assist in the OR for cardiac surgeries
• Conduct patient rounding in ICU and on the floor
• Coordinate care and consult with multidisciplinary teams
• Diagnose and treat cardiothoracic-related illnesses
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests
• Prescribe appropriate medications and therapies
• Perform suture removal and other post-operative care tasks

Qualifications:

• NCCPA Certified Physician Assistant (PA-C)
• Active New Jersey license (required)
• BLS and ACLS certifications (AHA-approved)
• Strong background in cardiothoracic surgery with first-assist experience
• Proficiency in endoscopic vein harvesting and chest tube placement
