We are seeking an experienced Locums Orthopedic Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join a collaborative orthopedic team in Coos Bay, OR. The ideal provider will be comfortable managing pre- and postoperative orthopedic patients, assisting in surgery, and providing continuity of care in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This position includes scheduled weekday shifts with rotating night and weekend call coverage.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide preoperative and postoperative patient care in collaboration with orthopedic surgeons.
  • First assist in orthopedic surgical procedures as needed.
  • Conduct inpatient rounds, manage consults, and perform follow-up assessments.
  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage a variety of musculoskeletal conditions.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic imaging, lab work, and other relevant tests.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedures, recovery expectations, and follow-up care.
  • Participate in call rotation, including one to two nights per week and every third weekend.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the medical record.

 

Schedule & Call:

 

  • Shift Options: 4x10-hour shifts or 5x8-hour shifts per week
  • Call Requirements: 1–2 nights per week and every 3rd weekend
  • Weekend Coverage: Yes

 

Requirements:

 

  • Certification: Board Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C)
  • Licensure: Active Oregon license (required)
  • Experience: Prior orthopedic surgery experience preferred
  • Skills: Strong surgical assisting and clinical assessment skills
