Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician

We are seeking a highly skilled Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician to provide 24-hour call coverage at a busy hospital in Mishawaka, IN. This role supports a high-acuity cardiothoracic program with steady case volume and a strong team of advanced practice providers.

 

Schedule & Coverage

 

• Shift: 24-hour call
• Dates Needed: December 22 – January 5
• Potential: Ongoing intermittent/supplemental coverage

 

Case & Facility Details

 

• Average Procedures:
• ~2 heart cases/week
• ~2–3 lung cases/week
• Total: 5–6 cardiothoracic procedures/week
• Annual ER Volume: 45,000 patients/year
• Operating Rooms: 16
• Patient Population: Adults & geriatrics
• Documentation: EPIC

 

Scope of Practice

 

Adult Cardiac Surgery:

• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
• Arterial Revascularization (IMA, radial artery, gastroepiploic artery)
• Redo coronary revascularization (with or without valve surgery)

Heart Valve Surgeries:

• Heart valve repair & replacement
• Mitral valve repair
• Heart valve replacement without surgery (CoreValve® System)

General Thoracic Surgery:

• Thoracotomy lung biopsy
• Thoracotomy lung resections & pneumonectomy
• Thoracotomy decortication
• Chest wall resection & reconstruction
• Mediastinal surgery
• Mediastinotomy & biopsy

Additional Procedures:

• Tube thoracostomy
• Pericardial window

 

Qualifications

 

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
• Active Indiana medical license (or ability to obtain)
• Strong experience in high-acuity adult cardiac and thoracic cases
