We are seeking a
Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Locums Psychiatrist to provide onsite
inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services for Veterans at a Department of
Veterans Affairs facility in Memphis, TN. The psychiatrist will deliver
high-quality, evidence-based care that meets or exceeds nationally recognized
standards.
The psychiatrist will
provide comprehensive mental health care across inpatient units, outpatient
clinics, and residential programs, working collaboratively with VA-employed
mental health staff. Services must be provided onsite and documented in
accordance with VA policies and clinic performance metrics.
Schedule & On-Call
- Onsite clinic hours: Monday–Friday, 8:00
AM–4:30 PM (Inpatient Psychiatry until 5:00 PM).
- Weekend coverage: Saturday–Sunday, 8:00
AM–4:30 PM, as scheduled.
- On-call: Required during all hours when
clinics are closed, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Availability requirements: Must be
reachable by phone within 15 minutes and able to be on-site within 60
minutes.
- Support VA residents and physicians via
after-hours phone consultation.
Key Responsibilities
Inpatient Care
- Provide admissions, evaluations,
treatment planning, medication management, and discharges for inpatient
psychiatry units.
- Collaborate with VA mental health staff
and complete timely medical record documentation.
Outpatient Care
- Evaluate new patient referrals, manage
severely mentally ill Veterans, complete consults/E-consults, and provide
post-discharge follow-up.
- Maintain 6–6.5 bookable patient hours
per day.
Clinic & Residential
Programs
- Deliver psychiatric care in general
mental health and specialty clinics (PRRC, MHICM, PTSD, RRTP).
- Examine patients, interpret clinical
reports, and maintain on-time clinic attendance.
Peer Review &
Administrative
- Participate in peer reviews, case
assessments, and quality reviews as needed.
- Attend staff meetings and complete
required administrative tasks (~5%).
On-Call Responsibilities
- Provide on-call coverage during all
hours the clinics are closed (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays).
- Must be available by phone within 15
minutes and onsite within 60 minutes.
- Support VA residents and physicians via
phone consultation.
Requirements
- Board Certified/Eligible in Psychiatry
(ABPN)
- Valid U.S. medical license (any state)
- BLS required; ACLS preferred
