A busy
tertiary care center in Worcester, MA is seeking an experienced Critical Care
Physician with expertise in trauma and surgical critical care to join our team
on a locum tenens basis. The role involves managing critically ill surgical and
trauma patients, providing emergency general surgery coverage as needed, and
working closely with a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, APPs, and residents.
Compensation: $300 Per Hour
Key
Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality inpatient
critical care for trauma and surgical patients.
- Cover emergency general surgery
consults and operative cases as required (emergencies only, e.g.,
perforated viscous).
- Participate in weekday and weekend
call coverage for trauma and emergency general surgery:
- Weekday Shifts: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Weekday Call: 4:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- Weekend Call: 6:00 AM – 7:00 AM
(day shift coverage)
- Manage trauma inpatients (30–50
patients; 2 attendings share coverage during the day).
- Respond to trauma activations (10–20
per 24-hour period, majority blunt trauma 90–95%).
- Collaborate with support staff:
- Daytime: 2 APPs + residents
(PGY3/PGY4 and interns)
- Nighttime: 1 APP + resident support
- Document patient care in Epic EMR.
Qualifications:
- Fellowship trained in Surgical
Critical Care
- Board eligible or certified in
Surgical Critical Care
- DEA and CSR certification required
- Massachusetts medical license
preferred (candidates without MA license may be considered)
- Minimum of 3 months availability
