A leading pediatric healthcare system in Richmond, Virginia is seeking a Locums Pediatric Surgery Physician to provide full-time clinic and call coverage. This opportunity offers a combination of outpatient pediatric surgical consultations, inpatient management, and 24/7 call responsibilities within a collaborative pediatric specialty environment.

The ideal candidate will be board-certified in Pediatric Surgery and comfortable managing the full spectrum of pediatric surgical care, including preoperative evaluation, operative management, and postoperative follow-up.

 

Position Details

  • Coverage Dates: June 11 – July 10
  • Practice Setting: Pediatric Surgery Clinic and Hospital-Based Coverage

Schedule

Clinic Coverage

  • Monday – Friday
  • 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Night Call Coverage

  • Monday – Friday
  • 8:00 PM – 8:00 AM

Weekend Call Coverage

  • Friday through Sunday
  • 24-hour call coverage

Call Expectations

  • 15-minute maximum callback time for emergency consults
  • 30-minute maximum response time when required onsite
  • Primarily phone consults and emergency department consultations

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Evaluate pediatric patients and determine surgical treatment plans
  • Collaborate with pediatricians, pediatric emergency physicians, and specialty providers
  • Perform preoperative, operative, and postoperative surgical care
  • Manage inpatient pediatric surgical patients
  • Round on patients admitted by the locum physician
  • Provide weekend surgical consultations as needed
  • Respond to emergency department consult requests
  • Maintain accurate and timely medical documentation

Patient Volume

  • Average of 0–4 patients per day per provider
  • Approximately 0–2 consult calls per day
  • Facility averages approximately 8–10 emergent pediatric surgeries annually

Qualifications

  • MD or DO required
  • Board Certified in Pediatric Surgery required
  • Active Virginia medical license required
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Current PALS certification required
  • COVID-19 vaccination required
