Locums Cardiovascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner

A respected cardiovascular surgery program in Redding, CA is seeking an experienced Cardiovascular Surgery Nurse Practitioner for a locums assignment. This opportunity is ideal for advanced practice providers with strong first assist experience in cardiovascular surgery and substantial expertise in endovascular vein harvesting (EVH).

Providers will work closely with cardiovascular surgeons in the operating room, inpatient setting, and outpatient follow-up clinic while supporting a well-established cardiac surgery program.

Schedule & Call

• All shifts are 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM onsite
• Night call from 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
• Weekend coverage required as part of the schedule
• Holiday call coverage included for scheduled assignment dates
• Average callback hours: approximately 1–2 hours
• No ICU, Cath Lab, or Emergency Department call responsibilities

Position Details

• Approximately 10–11 heart surgeries per month
• Additional thoracic surgical cases available for first assist
• Daily inpatient rounding responsibilities
• APPs assist with postoperative documentation and patient management alongside surgeons
• Average inpatient census is typically fewer than 10 patients
• Outpatient follow-up clinic held Tuesday and Thursday afternoons
• Clinic volume averages up to 6 patients per session

Responsibilities

• First assist in cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures
• Perform endovascular vein harvesting (EVH)
• Manage preoperative and postoperative patient care
• Conduct inpatient rounds and assist with daily patient management
• Write postoperative progress notes and care documentation
• Participate in outpatient follow-up clinic evaluations
• Collaborate closely with cardiovascular surgeons and multidisciplinary teams

Requirements

• Board Certified Nurse Practitioner
• Active California license preferred
• Current ACLS, BLS, and DEA certifications
• Recent and substantial cardiovascular surgery experience required
• Strong first assist experience in cardiac surgery required
• Substantial experience performing EVH is mandatory
