A busy Level I Trauma Center in Flint, Michigan is seeking a Locums General Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide overnight coverage for its General Surgery and Trauma Surgery service. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced surgical APP who thrives in a fast-paced acute care environment and is comfortable managing adult surgical and trauma patients.

The provider will work closely with surgeons, trauma teams, nursing staff, and ancillary services to deliver high-quality inpatient surgical care.

 

Position Details

  • Practice Setting: Inpatient General Surgery and Trauma Surgery
  • Shift: Nights
  • Shift Hours: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
  • Weekend Coverage: Required
  • On-Call Requirements: None
  • Patient Volume: Approximately 15–20 patients per shift

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide overnight coverage for adult general surgery and trauma patients
  • Perform inpatient evaluations, consultations, and follow-up assessments
  • Assist with admissions, postoperative management, and patient monitoring
  • Respond to changes in patient condition and collaborate with attending surgeons
  • Participate in multidisciplinary care planning and coordination
  • Perform bedside procedures as clinically indicated
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record

 

Required Skills & Procedures

Candidates must be comfortable with:

  • Adult General Surgery patient management
  • Trauma Surgery patient management
  • Central line insertion
  • Chest tube insertion
  • Placement and management of vascular access devices
  • Acute surgical patient assessment and stabilization
  • Postoperative care and surgical consults

 

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
  • Board Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant required
  • Active Michigan license required
  • Current ACLS certification required
  • Current ATLS certification required
  • COVID-19 vaccination required
