Locums General Surgery Physician

We are seeking a Locums General Surgery Physician to provide 24-hour call coverage in Newport News, Virginia for a short-term assignment on August 3–4, 2026. This opportunity is ideal for a board-certified general surgeon who is comfortable managing a broad range of acute general surgery cases in a hospital setting.

Assignment Details

• Schedule: 24-hour call coverage
• Weekend Coverage: None
• Call Required: Yes
• Practice Setting: Hospital
• EMR: Epic

Responsibilities

• Provide 24-hour general surgery call coverage.
• Evaluate and manage emergency general surgery consults and admissions.
• Perform urgent and emergent general surgical procedures as needed.
• Round on hospitalized surgical patients and provide postoperative management.
• Collaborate with emergency medicine physicians, hospitalists, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to ensure high-quality patient care.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation in Epic.

Scope of Practice

• Full-spectrum general surgery call.
• No bariatric call or bariatric patient coverage required.
• Candidates should be proficient in the routine procedures and clinical responsibilities expected of a general surgeon.

Qualifications

• Board Certified in General Surgery.
• Active, unrestricted Virginia medical license.
• Current ACLS certification.
• DEA registration and eligibility for hospital credentialing and privileges.
