Locum Tenens

We are seeking a Board-Certified Interventional Cardiologist for a locum tenens opportunity in Mechanicsville, Virginia. This position offers a combination of onsite inpatient coverage and STEMI call responsibilities within a busy cardiovascular program serving a diverse adult patient population.

 

Position Details

  • Practice Setting: Inpatient and Call Coverage
  • Schedule:
    • Onsite Coverage: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
    • Weekday Call: Monday–Friday, 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM
    • Weekend Call: Saturday 7:00 AM – Monday 7:00 AM
  • Weekend Coverage Required
  • Call Coverage Required

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Provide inpatient interventional cardiology coverage and consultations.
  • Perform diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.
  • Respond to STEMI activations and other emergent cardiovascular conditions.
  • Participate in a shared call rotation covering STEMI, unassigned call, and non-invasive cardiology coverage.
  • Conduct inpatient rounding as needed.
  • Collaborate with hospitalists, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, and cardiovascular team members to ensure high-quality patient care.
  • Complete timely and accurate documentation.

Call Environment

  • STEMI call is integrated with unassigned cardiology and non-invasive call coverage.
  • Approximately 159 STEMI activations were recorded in 2025, with a cancellation rate of approximately 47%.
  • Physicians can expect more phone consultations than in-person callbacks.
  • Emergent STEMI callbacks occur less than every other day on average.

Patient Volume

  • Average inpatient admissions: Greater than 2 per physician per day

 

Qualifications

  • Board Certified in Interventional Cardiology
  • Active Virginia medical license
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Ability to obtain hospital privileges
  • Experience performing complex coronary and peripheral vascular interventions
