Locums Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant

We are seeking a Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Cardiothoracic Surgery Physician Assistant for a locums assignment in Portsmouth, Virginia. This position provides primarily inpatient adult cardiothoracic surgery coverage with a combination of daytime clinical responsibilities and night/weekend call.

Position Highlights

• Minimum Commitment: 2-week on / 2-week off rotation
• Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM
• Night Call: 3:00 PM–7:00 AM
• Weekend Call: 24-hour call, 7:00 AM–7:00 AM
• Weekend Rounding: Required
• Patient Population: 100% Adult
• Inpatient: 75%
• Outpatient: 25%
• Patients on Rounds: Approximately 5–10
• EMR: Epic

Responsibilities

• Provide inpatient and outpatient cardiothoracic surgery care for adult patients.
• Perform daily rounds and evaluate postoperative patients.
• Assist with patient management, treatment planning, and coordination of care.
• Respond to clinical needs and consults during assigned night and weekend call.
• Collaborate with surgeons, physicians, nurses, and other members of the healthcare team.
• Complete timely and accurate documentation in Epic.
• Participate in weekend rounds and provide continuity of care.

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible Physician Assistant
• Active Virginia license
• Active DEA registration
• Cardiothoracic surgery experience required
• Ability to participate in a 2-week on / 2-week off rotation
